Two-for-one-special: Eating Chinese Food and Quote of the day

For being a rinky-dink little down, "by the ocean", Oregon has some decent restaurants. And not a bad variety, either. If you know where to go and what to order, you can get Japanese, Korean, and even a little Vietnamese food here.

The scoop: Kum Yon's and SuMin's both offer sushi. And although they both have rather plebian menus, if you look closely you can find a few token Korean dishes. At SuMin's you can get fabulous Sukiyaki, and if your in the mood for Korean, they offer classics such as Bibimbop. (prounced bee-pim-bop)

Another hint: The folks at SuMins offer a lot of goodies not necessarily on the menu. But if you ask, they will make it.

Next up, Kim's Oriental market. This unassuming little take-out-only+ asian store has some great cheap eats. They don't offer anything unusual, but it's healthy , fresh, and very inexpensive. The owner is Vietnamese and if you ask real nice, they will let you know when they are making Beef Pho or Summer Rolls and sell some to you. Typically these are dishes they only make for their families.

While your waiting for Tan to make your order, browse the 'market' and you'll find many hard-to-get items for making asian foods at home. Kim's is the greatest place-you've-never-been-to in this area.

Which brings me to the quote of the day. Phil and I took Maxwell to Lucky Star for some cheap chinese eats. Max walked in the front door, looked at the host and declared loudly " I want noodles, Snake and Rat!"

Awkward...................................We realized he looks at the Chinese Zodiac placemats when we go there and thought it was a picture menu. And Max was downright indignant about not getting to eat snake or rat. I kid you not.
